Information Technology Gathering

Information_Gathering_imageA PICS Account Manager and Business Development Team will work hand-in-hand with your IT department to personally develop a process to utilize your current source file.

The following information is needed to ensure that PICS IT will provide your organization with all of the technology advantages that our equipment and processes have to offer:

  1. Provide the contact information for your IT lead on this project.
  2. Inform your IT lead of the complete project requirements and inform them that PICS will be contacting him or her to discuss and gather additional IT information.
  3. Have the IT lead supply the following information for non-scanned inventories:
    • Required reporting medium for your non-scanned inventories
    • Record layout for your reporting of physical inventory data for non-scanned inventories
    • Turnaround time expectation of final inventory data reporting
  4. Have the IT lead supply PICS with the following information for UPC-scanned inventories:
    • In what medium will the source file be provided? (email, website, ours, or yours)
    • What are the record layouts for your initial source file and final reporting file processed by PICS
    • Is the source file per store or a master file to be used for all stores
    • What bar code types should we expect
    • If applicable, does the SKU contain a check digit
    • Are alpha characters present in your bar codes and/or SKU’s
    • What is the timing expectation for data return
  5. Once your customer-specific programs and processes are developed, PICS will conduct an in-store test. The test will ensure that the customer-provided source file is in order and that all programs, scanning abilities (if applicable), and reporting tools are working properly. PICS will transmit the captured test data to our corporate Tech Center for testing of our processing programs. Upon completion of our Tech Center processing, the data will be made available to your IT department to test your internal physical inventory processing. This testing is extremely important.
